How to install Fox Open Code
Fox Open Code is distributed as an Android APK you download from this site instead of the Google Play Store. This is called sideloading. It's safe when you download from the official site — just follow the steps below. The whole thing takes about two minutes.
Requirements: Android 10 or newer, arm64, about 3–4 GB free space. Works on Pixel, Samsung, Xiaomi / Redmi / POCO, OnePlus and other brands.
Quick version (stock Android / Pixel)
- On your phone, open foxcode.run and tap Download APK.
- If the browser warns “This type of file can harm your device”, tap Download anyway / OK. (This warning appears for every APK — it doesn't mean the file is unsafe.)
- Tap the downloaded file (pull down the notification shade, or open Files → Downloads).
- The first time, Android says “your phone can't install unknown apps from this source.” Tap Settings, turn on Allow from this source, then press Back.
- Tap Install.
- If Google Play Protect shows a dialog, see the Play Protect section below.
- Tap Open. Done.
Step 1 — Download the APK
Open foxcode.run in Chrome (or any browser) and tap the Download APK button. Your browser will likely show “This type of file can harm your device. Do you want to keep it anyway?” — tap Download anyway / Keep. This is a standard message Android shows for all APK files; it is not a virus warning.
Step 2 — Allow your browser to install apps
Since Android 8 there is no single “Unknown sources” switch. Instead you allow the specific app doing the install (your browser or file manager).
The easiest way: just tap the downloaded APK. If permission is missing, Android pops up “…can't install unknown apps from this source” with a Settings shortcut — tap it, turn on Allow from this source, and press Back. The install continues.
To set it manually: Settings → Apps → Special app access → Install unknown apps → [your browser] → Allow from this source. (Per-brand paths are in the phone-brand section.)
Step 3 — Install
Tap the APK, then tap Install, then Open when it finishes.
Google Play Protect
Play Protect is Google's built-in scanner. When you install an app from outside the Play Store you'll see one of two dialogs — read which one you got:
A) “App not scanned” / “Scan app?”
Play Protect offers to scan the file first.
- Tap Scan app (or OK) and wait a moment, or tap Install without scanning.
- When it says the app looks safe, tap Install.
B) “Unsafe app blocked” / “Blocked by Play Protect”
Play Protect blocked the install and hid the Install button.
- Tap More details.
- Tap Install anyway.
This prompt appears for most apps not distributed through the Play Store, including legitimate ones. If the app requests sensitive permissions, newer Android versions may show an extra confirmation — that's expected.
Optional — turning off Play Protect scanning. You normally do not need this; Install anyway is enough and keeps protection on for everything else. Only if installs keep failing: open the Play Store → your profile icon → Play Protect → gear / Settings → turn off Scan apps with Play Protect. This disables scanning for all apps and is fully reversible — turn it back on afterward. We recommend leaving it on and using Install anyway instead.
Phone-brand notes (OEM differences)
Pixel / stock Android / Motorola / Nokia
- Unknown apps:
Settings → Apps → Special app access → Install unknown apps. - On Android 13+, some settings for sideloaded apps are hidden under Restricted settings — open the app's info page and tap ⋮ menu → Allow restricted settings if prompted.
- Android 15/16 add extra confirmation screens (Enhanced Confirmation / Advanced Protection) for internet-downloaded apps — just follow the on-screen prompts.
Samsung (One UI 6.1.1, 7, 8)
- Important: Samsung's Auto Blocker is on by default and silently blocks sideloading with no “allow” button. Turn it off first:
Settings → Security and privacy → Auto Blocker → off(confirm with fingerprint/PIN). - Unknown apps:
Settings → Apps → [your browser] → Install unknown apps → Allow. - You can turn Auto Blocker back on after installing.
Xiaomi / Redmi / POCO (MIUI & HyperOS)
- Unknown apps:
Settings → Privacy protection → Special permissions → Install unknown apps → [your browser] → Allow. - MIUI/HyperOS runs its own scan and may show a ~10-second countdown before the Install button becomes tappable — just wait. It may also ask you to solve a CAPTCHA.
- To reduce blocks:
Settings → Passwords & security → ⋮ → Scan apps before installingcan be turned off; if “This app can't be installed” appears, disabling MIUI optimization in Developer options may help.
OnePlus / OPPO / realme (ColorOS / OxygenOS)
- Unknown apps:
Settings → Apps → Special app access → Install unknown apps. - You may also need to disable Payment protection scanning if it blocks the install.
Menu names vary slightly between versions and languages. If a path differs, search your Settings for “unknown apps” or “install unknown.”
Verify your download (optional but recommended)
Every official release lists a SHA-256 checksum on the download section. Checking it proves the file wasn't tampered with or corrupted.
On your phone:
- Many file managers (Files, Solid Explorer, FX) have a Properties → Checksum / Hash option — open it on the APK and read the SHA-256.
- Or install a free “Hash Checker” app.
- Or in Termux:
pkg install coreutilsthensha256sum FoxOpenCode.apk.
Compare the result to the value on foxcode.run — it must match exactly. If it doesn't, delete the file and download again.
Updating & uninstalling
When a new version is out, download the new APK and install it over the existing app. Because it's signed with the same key, it updates in place and keeps all your data and settings — no need to uninstall first.
Fox Open Code can also check for updates automatically and offer to download the new APK from foxcode.run for you. If it offers an update, tap Update and repeat the install step. You can turn this off in Settings → Check for updates automatically.
To uninstall: long-press the Fox Open Code icon → Uninstall, or Settings → Apps → Fox Open Code → Uninstall.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Fix |
|---|---|
| “App not installed” | Free up space; make sure no older copy with a different signature is installed; re-download the APK. |
| No “Install anyway” button | Tap More details first; on Samsung turn off Auto Blocker. |
| Install button greyed out (Xiaomi) | Wait for the ~10-second countdown to finish. |
| “Blocked by Play Protect” keeps returning | Use More details → Install anyway, or temporarily turn off Play Protect scanning and turn it back on after. |
| “Problem parsing the package” | Download is incomplete or corrupted — re-download and verify the SHA-256. |
